Stella is the major voice for gender equity and cultural change in Australian literature.

Founded in 2012, the organisation’s flagship program is the annual Stella Prize – a major literary award celebrating Australian women’s writing.

Stella also delivers a suite of year-round initiatives which actively champion Australian women writers, tackle gender bias in the literary sector, and connect outstanding books with readers.

The longlist for the $60,000 Stella Prize for women and non-binary writers has been announced.

Each of the authors with longlisted titles will receive $1,000 in prize money. The longlist was chosen from a pool of 180 entries.

‘Literary prizes are subjective beasts, but I assure you, the works on this year’s longlist are remarkable,’ said Edwards. ‘To the writers on the longlist, thank you. The time and skill required to weave together story is too often unregarded. Your words are beautiful, and they will stay with me.’

The Stella Prize is awarded annually to one outstanding book by an Australian woman or non-binary writer, which is deemed to be ‘original, excellent, and engaging’. Six shortlisted titles will be announced on 8 April and the winner will be announced on 23 May.

2025 Judging Panel: Astrid Edwards (Chair), Debra Dank, Leah Jing McIntosh, Rick Morton, Yassmin Abdel-Magied.
