Mechanics is a subject dealing with many experiences in our daily life. It is introduced in high school and intermediate education as a part of physics. It is expanded as Engineering Mechanics for meeting the needs of engineering graduates. In some universities, it is taught to students of all branches in the first year while in some others it is taught to students in civil, mechanical and aeronautical disciplines. The syllabus also varies in many universities. All topics recommended by AICTE are covered in this book

Because of the possibility of a large number of problems, which no single book can cover, students often find it tough to do well in this subject. By concentrating on understanding concepts and by avoiding common errors students can score well in this subject.

Special Features

- Emphasis on better understanding of concepts and a brief review of units & trigonometry for helping students in solving new problems and help successful design engineers later

- Common conceptual and numerical errors are highlighted for avoiding them & score well

- Summary at the end of each chapter, for a quick review of the concepts

G. Lakshmi Narasaiah is a mechanical engineering graduate from REC (now, renamed NIT), Warangal and specialized in Aero-structures during his post graduate study at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. His work for over 25 years at Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, India on analysis of pressure vessels, boiler supporting structures, etc consolidated his theoretical concepts. After 25 years of service in industry, he choose teaching profession to share his experience with engineering students. He taught Engineering Mechanics, in addition to many other subjects, for many batches of engineering students in different colleges for over a decade. His teaching experience prompted him to author text books on 'Finite Element Analysis' and 'Aircraft Structures' about 10 years back, to fill the gaps in the existing books and students' needs. The success of these books with graduate engineers prompted him to write this third book for the benefit of first year students, with emphasis on explaining theoretical concepts and laying the right foundation for the other design subjects.
