Born in Tokyo in 1933, Yoko Ono is one of the most important living artists working today. In a career that spans seven decades, Ono has worked in a broad variety of media, including art, music, performance, poetry and film. Some of her most widely known creative works include the foundational book of instructions Grapefruit and her germinal work Cut Piece, where she invited members of the audience to cut away pieces of her clothing.

From her early involvement with the Conceptual and Fluxus art movements starting in 1961 to her passionate campaigning for World peace, Ono's ground-breaking work has been influential to generations of artists and musicians.
