A native to the East Coast, Lisa Weckbacher grew up with a love for books and animals. She holds three master's degrees as well as a Ph.D. in education, specialization in child and adolescent development, from UC Santa Barbara. She is the creator of Shape Stories with Farm Friends, a series of books dedicated to nurturing children's developing knowledge of geometric shapes within meaningful, relatable contexts. To date, Lisa has also published several works on types of spatial abilities, and why spatial thinking is essential for mathematics and other STEM disciplines. Lisa divides her time between Southern California and Western Montana with her family, and their many feathered and furry friends including her new pal, Skye. She also enjoys tennis and playing the piano. Gabriela Vega is a proud Latina children's book illustrator from Southern California and a graduate from Cal State Fullerton, where she obtained her BFA in Illustration. From a young age, her passion for art began with her love for picture books and animated films. She has won two awards from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and was selected as a mentee for the 2022 WNDB Mentorship Program. In 2023, Gabriela participated in the Scholastic's Art Mentorship Program, a highly selective opportunity for illustrators who have demonstrated commitment to the art of children's literature. Along with What Is the Shape of My Egg?, she is also the illustrator for The Cactus Dance written by April Lesher, and I Love You My Little Taquito written by Naibe Reynoso. When she's not illustrating, you can find Gabriela out in nature taking hikes, watching The Office, drawing in her sketchbook or playing with her sassy little dog Mumu.
