After a long career in education and information technology, Jacquetta became interested in long-distance walking and trekking. The West Highland Way was her first long walk, and may still be her favourite; she returns to rewalk it often. She progressed to Mount Kilimanjaro, which she has summited four times by different routes. In 2000, she founded Rucksack Readers, a series of over 40 rucksack-friendly guidebooks to adventurous walks worldwide. She has written or co-authored about half of these and has personally hiked nearly all of the routes. Her photographs appear in most of these books and she edits the whole range for consistency, challenge and fun.
The walk is broken down into seven sections, each with detailed large scale mapping commissioned specifically for the book and clear, detailed route instructions. The result is a book that gives the walker everything they need in one place and at their fingertips. Combine the quality of the content with beautiful presentation and good colour photography throughout and the end result is a book that's a pleasure to use - or just to browse - and an essential companion for anyone wanting to tackle the West Highland Way. From a review by Undiscovered Scotland When walking the West Highland Way, this book was my bible. ... it's all you need in one handy package. ... Don't leave home without it. Reviewed by Steven Smith on Amazon.co.uk This was my choice to take with me on my recent walk ... I had also read the Official Guide but left that at home. The Rucksack Reader was just great to keep in the front pocket of my rucksack and I could sit at the lunch-break reading the section for the day to make sure I wasn't missing anything.
