Tolerance to water stress is an important plant defense for maintaining production in conditions of low water availability, especially in areas such as the semi-arid region, where rainfall distribution is very irregular and summers are long. It is therefore recommended to use hardier varieties that are tolerant to water stress and have a greater ability to recover after periods of drought. This book is the result of a trial to evaluate the response of cowpea seedlings to water stress, using local varieties of the legume from the Brazilian semi-arid region.
