Arthur William Upfield is well known as the creator of Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte (Bony) who features in 29 crime detection novels, most set in the Australian outback. He also wrote about 250 short stories and articles, drawing on his experiences in the bush between 1911 and 1931.

This is the third published collection of Upfield’s short works - 34 short stories, a radio play and the first five chapters for an unfinished Bony novel. There are stories based on Upfield’s personal experience as a soldier in World War One, stories set in the Australian outback, and tales of Aboriginals and immigrants crossing paths during the years of European settlement and expansion.
