ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Luckily one of my favourite author/illustrators is also one of the most prolific! This is a matching companion to the delightful The World's Most Pointless Animals and once again pokes sly fun at the human tendency to measure other creatures by our standards of usefulness and beauty. There are jokes galore, like the crossing out of scientific names replaced by cod-latin invented ones (I was rather tickled by the frill-neck lizard becoming Draco hissyfitium or the red lionfish's Codalmightae. And the cassowary being converted into Beverywaryous!) The creatures get a page to themselves (sometimes a double spread) with Bunting's trademark expressive graphic-illustration renditions, accompanied by puns and humourous asides, but also with informative paragraphs highlighting some of the animals marvellous abilities or adaptions. Highly entertaining, but also subversively educational - all ages can enjoy this! Lindy
We share our planet with some truly bizarre and flamboyant creatures, from Panther Chameleon to Nudibranchto, who can seem rather ridiculous. The World's Most Ridiculous Animals shows you the amazing adaptations these creatures have.
Philip Bunting is an author and illustrator, with a soft spot for creating picture books for sleep-deprived, time-poor, raisin-encrusted parents (and their children). Philip's work deliberately encourages playful interaction between the reader and child, allowing his books to create a platform for genuine intergenerational engagement and fun. He believes that the more fun the child has during their early reading experiences, the more likely they will be to return to books, improve their emergent literacy skills, and later find joy in reading and learning. Philip's books have been translated into multiple languages and published in over 25 countries around the world. Since his first book was published in 2017, Philip has received multiple accolades, including Honours from the Children's Book Council of Australia, and making the list for the Kate Greenaway Medal in 2018. Philip grew up in the England's Lake District and now lives with his young family in the hills behind Noosa.
