Reviews for The Lettering Workbook for Small Tip Brush Pen: A Simple Guide to Hand Lettering and Modern Calligraphy

Fun Small-Tip Brush Pen Practice for Modern Calligraphers - JamieBJI love the workbooks put out by this modern calligrapher! This lettering workbook focuses on learning and practicing your small-tip brush pen technique. It has a good preliminary section, talking about pens and paper as well as going over basic strokes before going into letters and words. I liked how typical errors were discussed... and how to avoid them. For the basic strokes and letters, examples are provided, followed by space to trace the letters and space to try them freehand. Letters are broken down by stroke, with pointers given. Creativity is encouraged by occasionally breaking waistline or upper/lower boundaries and adding flourishes at the ends of letters. The book also shows a couple of styles suitable to the small-tip brush pen, Begonia and Wisteria. It ends with Seven Days of Appreciation, where you practice an appreciative phrase each day. Much is packed into this small workbook, and it inspired me to dig into my calligraphy tools and have some fun! If you enjoy lettering and want to get working with a small-tip brush pen down pat, I encourage you to pick up this workbook. Great for Beginners - TanzyAs an absolute beginner, I really appreciate the step by step approach on how to form each letter. Other books I've seen show you how to make the letters but aren't clear on which lines you make first, second, etc Practice makes perfect - SerpinaAs someone, who adores lettering, but has not a single creative spark in her body, this workbook is just perfect. A clear (very basic, so if you already know how to do this, it might be too low-level) instruction of how to draw the different strokes of a letter and a lot of practice sheets. Additionally, two full alphabets for different fonts. So if you really want to get something to work with and practice a decorative font for a journal or something like that, this is a very helful workbook to master it, without being creative yourself. Great Book - Nina DI really enjoyed this book. I learned script in school when I was a kid and can still write it, but I was always fascinated by beautiful, fancy cursive- especially using brush pens, which I did not learn at school. This book breaks down the steps to do the letters and has a lot of practice pages for you to work on. I got this book digitally, so I can print out as many work pages as I want to practice on without worrying about running out or ruining the original. You also get a couple bonus alphabets to learn. A fun book. 5 stars. Easy to Follow - Clear Instructions - MulanI thought this book was well written and the instructions were very clear. I loved that there is a link for worksheets to practice on, though the author also gave examples of what types of paper could be used as well (made it easy for me to know what to buy). I have always wanted to learn to to use a brush pen to write, and though I need a lot of practice, I can see an improvement in a short week.
