David Bachrach, associate professor of history at the University of New Hampshire, USA, focuses his research on the military, administrative, and economic history of medieval Germany and medieval England. His publications include Religion and the Conduct of War c. 300-c.1215, Warfare in Tenth-Century Germany, and Warfare and Politics in Medieval Germany, c. 1000: On the Variety of Our Times by Alpert of Metz; he is also co-translator of The Gesta Tancredi of Ralph of Caen.
’...this volume would make a very useful addition to any university library where medieval history is taught. Overall, in producing such as an accessible and engaging edition of sources Bachrach has done a great service to the study of urban history in the high medieval period, as well as to the history of medieval Germany in general.’ Urban History
