: What is Differential Geometry? Why is it Important? Differential geometry is a branch of mathematics that studies the properties of shapes using their precise measurements and the properties of the spaces between the points of the shapes. It is widely used in physics, engineering, computer science, economics, and other scientific and technological fields. What is Differential Geometry? Differential geometry can be thought of as the study of the geometry of curves and surfaces. In other words, it is the study of the properties of shapes that change smoothly as you move along them. For example, the curvature of a curve is a property of that curve that changes as you move along it. The curvature of a surface is a property of that surface that changes as you move over it.
