Given what we now know about cognitive development, communication, and culture, the time is right for work on a 'new model' to begin. If professionals from all theoretical camps would come together around this challenge, the development of a new model that addresses the evolving needs of deaf learners in the 21st century, that effort--that energy--will be fueled by the initial work of Kathryn Meadow-Orlans.
