James Leo Garrett Jr. had a long, impactful, and prestigious career as a theologian and theological educator at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Baylor University, and, for most of his career, at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, until his passing in early 2020. He authored a major two-volume work, Systematic Theology: Biblical, Historical, and Evangelical (Wipf & Stock), the monumental Baptist Theology: A Four-Century Study, and numerous other books and articles.
"""Garrett is a Southern Baptist statesman-theologian in a denomination that has often needed more of each. . . . Wyman Richardson has performed a great service to all of us by making Garrett's collected writings more widely available. These volumes are essential reading for everyone interested in Southern Baptist history, identity, and theology, as well as the place of the Baptist branch on the wider family tree of orthodox Christianity."" --Nathan A. Finn, School of Theology and Missions, Union University ""This volume of Garrett's collected writings does not disappoint. In them, we again see the keen analysis of a theological giant, a historian who could see beyond clutter to essence, and within all his labor, lovingly seek the edification of his community of faith. This rich volume renews our appreciation for the mind, heart, and pen of Garrett and our gratitude to God for giving him to us."" --Jeffrey Bingham, School of Theology, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary"
