Tim Hamer was born in Birmingham. He attended King Edwards School and graduated in Engineering from Durham University. He took up a career in Publishing, working for the Thomson Corporation and then as Director of Knowledge for the Institution of Engineering and Technology. He first started creating stories for his children at bedtime. Their love of history, fantasy and adventure stories inspired his first novel The Book of Tudllan. He now writes, carves stone dragons, and builds dry-stone walls on the wild headland of the Great Orme.
