"An insightful and expert commentary on The Acts of the Apostles, with a detailed examination of Paul's missionary journeys and the establishment of the early church. This is the second volume in the St Giles Commentary Series, following M J Flower's 'The King and the Kingdom: A Devotional Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew'.

The apostle Paul writes to Timothy: ""Present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth"". This is the ambition of Luke, the author of The Acts of the Apostles - and of all of us who wait on the Lord to receive from Him a measure of understanding of His Word.

In this book, the precursor to commentaries on Paul's letters, M J Flower reflects on the establishment of the early church as recounted by Luke, and illuminates the events of Acts with insightful expertise that assists us ""to submit to the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit as we look more closely and more intensely at what He has given us in His word."""

M J Flower, BA (Hons); MPhil, raised a family before reading Theology and Philosophy of Religion at the University of Exeter, where she also completed a research thesis on the social theory of John Millbank. She jointly established the Institute for Christian Studies in Exeter, and worked extensively with the South West Training Ministry for the Diocese of Exeter, training and supporting Readers and non-ordained ministers. She spent many years as a Churchwarden at St Leonard's Church in Exeter, and sat on the Deanery Synod as a lay member. She has spent more years than she would like to count leading and contributing to Bible Study and Home Groups and continues this work while happily retired in Buckinghamshire, living close to a very wide circle of friends and three generations of her family. She is the author of The King and the Kingdom: A Devotional Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew.
