ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Sometimes it's hard to explain how much actually goes into a book! But this one quite delightfully shows how many people are involved in the physical aspect of delivering a book. It leaves out all those steps that go into creating the concept, or all the publishing and marketing details, but it does demonstrate the supply chain process quite well! From the person in the factory, to all the transport and delivery people, and eventually the shop and customer and postie and child who receives the book, this colourful tale steps through the processes via the people involved. At the back, three pages of facts bring home the effort involved! Ages 5-8 (though anyone who has waited for a special delivery might enjoy this too!) Lindy
Special Delivery: A Book's Journey Around the World is a beautifully illustrated guide following the journey of one book across the globe, from a printing press in a factory far, far away, over land and across the sea, to the hands of a young boy. With stylish, contemporary artwork from Klas Fahlen and gentle narrative text by Polly Faber, this gorgeous picture book introduces all the people, processes and vehicles involved in delivering the perfect gift!
Polly Faber (Author) Polly Faber lives in London with her husband, sons, and two black and white cats called Alan and Babs. She worked as a midwife and a sandwich maker before becoming a writer, and has also mashed potatoes for Prince Edward's dinner. Her best impression is of a tortoise eating a strawberry. Klas Fahlen (Illustrator) Klas is an award-winning illustrator who has years of experience working in advertising, design and publishing. He lives in Stockholm with his family. Building a Home and Special Delivery are his first children's books.
