Emeritus Professor Michael Alpert is a historian of modern Spain and a specialist on the Spanish Civil War. He has published in both English and Spanish. His English-language works include A New International History of the Spanish Civil War (Palgrave-Macmillan, 2nd ed. 2004); The Republican Army in the Spanish Civil War (Cambridge University Press, 2007); Franco and the Condor Legion: The Spanish Civil War in the Air (Bloomsbury 2019), and the present volume: The Spanish Civil War at Sea: Dark and Dangerous Waters.
Alpert's book illuminates the least-known aspect of the Spanish Civil War. It is a good read, a valuable reference, and is recommended. -- The Northern Mariner ...an excellent treatment of the largest sea war between the world wars. -- The NYMAS Review
