Ellyn Mantell's desire to help women feel and look their best took her career on a trajectory from a speech pathologist to a fashion trainer for women's ready-to-wear at a major department store chain. From there, she started her own businesses in the fashion, skin care, and events industries before becoming a writer and, eventually, author. However, in 1993 Ellyn met the challenge of her life. A major small bowel obstruction perforated her intestine and she nearly died. It was after her twenty-third abdominal surgery-her ileostomy-that her path changed for the better. Six months after becoming an ostomate, Ellyn ran for and became president of the Union County Ostomy Support Group of New Jersey. In 2019 she was named the Mighty Advocate of the Year by the United Ostomy Associations of America. Ellyn has two beautiful daughters, Allison and Emily, and four grandchildren. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Bruce. She is passionate about beauty and fashion, her family and myriad of girlfriends, and being with her people.
