Smart Coatings have novel functions and sense and interact with their environment in addition to having the traditional functions of protecting and decorating surfaces. This volume focuses on bioactive coatings, nanotechnology based coatings and novel coatings. After an overview of the topic, the section on bioactive coatings deals with antibacterial, antifouling, fouling release coatings, and nanoporous bioactive smart coatings. The section on nanotechnology based coatings involves nanoparticle coatings, organic-inorganic nanocomposite coatings, effects of inorganic nanoparticles on automotive clear- coat properties, and nanostructured electro-optically active smart coatings. The section on novel coatings includes biocatalytic coatings, superhydrophobic coatings, intelligent corrosion protection by conducting polymers, and electrochemical protection of steel and aluminum coatings.
