They came from Medicine Hat, Alberta, Wing Lake, Michigan, Norwood, Massachusetts, Minnesota's Iron Range, and places with long winter ice. These figure skaters, hockey players, and speed skaters had arrived in Oregon, willing to trade their passions for the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. With stories like the speed skater who escaped from the Red Army, and the cancer patient who played his last hockey game while hooked up to an oxygen tank, Rink tells the consequential tale of how Lane County built an ice arena and how it became so meaningful for thousands of its citizens.

"F. Michael ""Mike"" Sheehan grew up skating on frozen New England ponds each winter. Like many former hockey players, figure skaters, and speed skaters, he assumed his skating days were over when he moved to Oregon. However, since Lane County opened the rink, he has played in the adult hockey league for over 30 years.Michael enjoyed a long career at PeaceHealth and was a pioneer in healthcare information technology. He founded Crescent Ridge Consulting, a Health IT advisory firm, in 2016 and Crescent Ridge Publishers in 2022.He lives with his wife, LeeAnn, in Eugene, Oregon. They have four adult children. Michael, LeeAnn, and their dog Sierra frequently travel throughout the West in their converted campervan. This is his first book."
