Val McDermid, the 'queen of crime', has published twenty-seven crime novels, which have sold over seventeen million copies worldwide, been translated into forty languages and won multiple awards. Her series featuring criminal profiler Tony Hill was the basis for the TV series The Wire in the Blood for ITV. Kathryn Briggs is a graphic novelist.
