Recent Trends in Estuarine and Coastal Dynamics: Observations and Modelling is a thorough reference guide on the most recent trends and developments in observing and modelling of estuaries and coastal oceans. The coasts cover a diverse range of ecosystems within marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments. They are some of the most heavily populated and visited areas and are also some of the most threatened natural habitats. Human activities like sewage discharge, overfishing, navigation channel dredging, land reclamation, the construction of shipping ports and marine plastics are also responsible for coastal pollution and degradation.

This book focuses on current studies on sediment transport dynamics and hydrodynamics of these environments and presents thorough case studies that aim to help students and researchers working in the field.

Professor Xiao Hua Wang graduated from Ocean University of China, and holds a PhD in Physical Oceanography from James Cook University in Australia. He formerly held a Directorship for International Student Recruitment and Exchange, Founding Directorship for the Sino-Australian Research Centre for Coastal Management, UNSW. He is a co-leader of the Sino-Australian Research Consortium for Coastal Management at UNSW Canberra, and an associate editor for Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science and Limnology and Oceanography: Methods, respectively. He has over 30 years teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. His research concerns modelling of ocean circulation, sediment transport dynamics, and understanding of coastal management issues. He has over 130 publications including peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters. Professor lulu Qiao holds a PhD in physical oceanography from Ocean University of China. She is currently a professor at the College of Marine Geosciences, Ocean University of China. She is a director of Estuarine and Coastal Zone Research Institute in Ocean University of China, and a vice director of Key Laboratory of Submarine Geosciences and Prospecting Technology, Ministry of Education, China. She is a guest editor of special issues in Estuarine Coastal Shelf Science and Earth Science Frontiers (in Chinese). Her research focuses on sedimentary dynamics, physical oceanography, and ocean engineering environment. Special interests include the mechanism and numerical technology development of sedimentary dynamics. She has over 80 publications including peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters.
