Is your herding dog ready to work livestock?
If so, the dream of you and your dog becoming a herding team is coming true and this book can be your guide! To use this book successfully, your dog needs basic herding skills in place that were taught using science-based positive dog training, such as taught in Positive Herding 101.

Let's look at the skills your dog needs to move forward with Positive Herding 201. First, your dog should be able to focus on stock while listening to you. Next, your dog needs these basic herding skills in place that were taught without livestock:

- Flanking or circling in both directions

- Stopping

- Walking in

The goal of Positive Herding 201 is to move you and your dog from working penned stock to loose stock. Eventually, your dog will be able to compete in herding trials and handle livestock on your acreage.

At this stage of training, your dog will be honing their skills on penned stock. It is finally time for the FUN stuff! This book provides clear explanations, step-by-step training plans, troubleshooting suggestions, video links, and tons of pictures to create savvy handlers and thriving dogs. It's almost like having your own herding dog trainer on retainer!

Barbara Buchmayer has over 30 years of herding experience and coached Sally Adam of South Africa from a complete herding newbie to a South African Sheepdog Association's reserve herding champion.

This revolutionary new way to train herding is sheep tested, dog approved.

Barbara had trained herding for over 30 years. She started with traditional training and later decided to learn positive reinforcement training and apply it to herding. After a decade of trial and error, she has developed a proven method for training herding. She starts dogs away from livestock, usually in her home and backyard. She then takes her dogs near penned stock and eventually to loose livestock. It is much easier for dogs to learn herding skills without the huge distraction of livestock in the picture and later add stock to the training. Sally started herding with no prior herding experience but was an excellent positive dog trainer. She taught agility, tricks, and basic obedience to her dogs and in her classes. Sally worked with Barb over the internet and trained her Border Collie puppy, Renn, into the South African Sheepdog Association's National Reserve Junior Champion in 2016.

Reviews for Positive Herding 201

"""This book is a great window into the Border Collie in particular - what motivates them, common issues with them related to herding. It's also a great start for anyone who wants to use positive reinforcement techniques for herding."" Kelly K, Amazon review of Positive Herding 101 ""This is a very comprehensive book. It walks you through learning theory, how to establish behaviours and herding behaviours. There are YouTube links also which really help visualise activities... this book is really helping me to develop herding techniques... the first book I have found that uses modern training methods and I believe it will help many owners and dogs."" Paula, Amazon UK review of Positive Herding 101"
