When a young man submitted a set of verses to the BULLEtIN in 1889 under the pseudonym 'the Banjo', it was the beginning of an enduring tradition. today Banjo Paterson is still one of Australia's best-loved poets.this complete collection of his verse shows the bush balladeer at his very best with favourites such as 'A Bush Christening', 'the Man from Ironbark', 'Clancy of the Overflow' and the immortal 'the Man from Snowy River'. these well-known verses are joined here by his comic verse, his remarkable war poems, including 'We're All Australians Now', and lesser known works.

B 'Banjo' Paterson was born at Narrambla, NSW in 1864. He was educated in Sydney and practised law until 1900, when he found success as a writer, contributing ballads to the Sydney BULLETIN. He worked as a correspondent for the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD for a time, then sold his poetry rights and bought a property near the upper Murrumbidgee River. He went to Europe during WWI, working as a war correspondent. After the war he remained in journalism, continuing to write poetry as well. Among his best known collections are THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER, RIO GRANDE'S LAST RACE AND OTHER VERSES, THE ANIMALS NOAH FORGOT and a work of fiction, THE SHEARER'S COLT. He died in 1941.
