Reviews for Paradise Sands: A Story of Enchantment

Gorgeously illustrated, Paradise Sands is a modern fairy-tale. [...] It's mysterious and each page feels heavy with underlying messages to decode. While the story isn't particularly long - it will fly by at bedtime - children will get lost in the ghostly tale and cinematic illustrations. 8/10 -- Prudence Wade * 'Children's Book of the Week', the Independent, syndicated in Northern Echo, Dundee Courier, East Anglian Daily Times, and the Eastern Daily Press * This is a strange tale, laden with ambiguities. However, herein lies the appeal; succinct, carefully chosen text and hauntingly beautiful artwork create a story that demands that its readers return to each page, trying to figure out answers to questions whose answers exist only in readers' imaginations. This mesmerizing work offers potential jumping-off points to discuss many topics, including magical realism, symbolism, family relationships and roles, and mental health. * Kirkus Reviews * Four children are on their way to pick up their mother from the hospital. During a stop to gather flowers, the brothers are lured into a mysterious palatial building, leaving their sister to rescue them, but at a cost. Pinfold's stunning artwork is worthy of attention from readers of all ages, and barely needs the words to tell the tale. Truly haunting! * A bookseller on Edelweiss * Pinfold's stunning illustrations, with majestic animals, stretching landscapes and Charn-like edifices, stayed with me long after I closed the final page. -- Charlotte Eyre * The Bookseller * This is a truly eerie tale with much left for the reader to ponder upon. Pinfold's illustrations are mesmerising, unsettling and haunting, drawing us to them again and again in search of further meanings. * Red Reading Hub *
