WANTED: self-motivated humans willing to trade the ""safety"" of the 9 - 5 for the freedom to create their own livelihood. Uncertain income. Intermittent failure and self-doubt guaranteed. Deep sense of satisfaction and a well-lived life in event of success.

Sure, building a life that's not built on the traditional constructs of ""work"" might sound sketchy as hell to some.

But this kind of work - self-employment, building businesses, starting movements - it isn't for people who aren't up for that kind of challenge. If you are, this book is for you.

I wrote it based on a decade of entrepreneurship to help you work through the self-doubt, the indecisiveness, the comparisonitis, and all of the other things we need to wrangle in order to ship work that matters. I'll help you uncover your unique fingerprint, and use that as the driver to bring your ideas and business(es) to life. And if you already have a business that's humming along, this book will provide the reboot you need to take yourself to the next level as an entrepreneur.

Let me be clear: this is not the book where I tell you how to get 500 followers overnight, nor how to jam people into your funnel to get X number of sales this month.

Rather, I will teach you how to find the answers you need and more importantly, how to ask the right questions.

We'll also explore how to make decisions about what's right for you and your business when bombarded by 5,000,000 quick-success Internet carrots being dangled in front of your face.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel.

You won't be starting from nothing.

The resources are there for you.

This is possible.

Welcome to the table.

Let's get to work.

Heather Thorkelson is a Canadian dual business owner based in rural Sweden. She's spent the majority of her life living abroad since her family moved to Costa Rica when she was 14, which contributed to a wanderlust that lasts to this day. After working in corporate throughout her 20's, Heather took the leap into entrepreneurship. She's been a business consultant for incurable entrepreneurs since 2011, helping hundreds of small business owners grow livelihoods that honour their strengths and feed their bank accounts in equal measure. At the same time, she feeds her own entrepreneurial drive through running a polar expedition company that specializes in boutique small ship expeditions in the Arctic and Antarctic. She's excited to share her expertise and experience to support a new wave of values-based entrepreneurs with her first book, No Plan B.

Reviews for No Plan B: A Handbook for Incurable Entrepreneurs and Other Rebellious Souls

""If you've realized that there is no cure for your desire to be an entrepreneur, Heather has a direct, honest and personal take on how to get from here to there... We each have a chance to make things better by making better things."" -- Seth Godin, Author, This Is Marketing ""If you know you want to go for something bigger, but you also don't feel like you're ""cut out"" for the life of an entrepreneur, Heather Thorkelson is your new salty best friend. She'll give you the straight dope about how you become the kind of person who calls their own shots and does something epic in this world. Less ""self help"" and more ""real talk from a friend,"" this is the book you need if you're serious about leveling up."" -- Sonia Simone, Founding Partner of Copyblogger Media + Founder of Remarkable Growth Club ""Heather's book is a lighthouse for anyone who is done living on others' terms and ready to actually work towards getting what they truly want."" -- Paul Jarvis, Author, Company of One ""I loved this book and found it very REFRESHING. There are so many plain, blueprint-y, uninteresting and talkative books on business and entrepreneurship that make me feel that I have to be someone else to succeed and that there is no room for mistakes, integrity and bold ideas. Heather's book takes us on a journey of self discovery where we learn how to become the entrepreneur we really are deep inside."" -- Torill Bye Wilhelmsen, Founder of Fjellflyt + Norway's Slow Business Adventure ""Omg I love this book! I wish it had existed 4-5 years ago when I was just setting up my solo biz and still felt very trapped by the ""corporate mindset."" But I also really enjoyed it now, 4+ years into my solo venture -- it had me nodding and going ""yesss"" all the way through. This book is a potential game changer for anyone who feels trapped in the corporate hamster wheel, as well as those needing a nudge and someone to tell them it's ok to unapologetically bring their whole selves into their business."" -- Solveig Petch, Brand Strategist + Identity Designer ""I wanted to say how much I really love your book. I've really been INSIDE the text, and I just love your voice and the examples you share -- from both your life and other businesses. I tend not to think of myself as an entrepreneur (which might be a semantic argument I have with myself because I've worked for myself for 20+ years lol), but the parts about really figuring out who you are, what you have to offer, etc are hugely resonant with stages of growth I've gone through -- and that's been personal growth that's impacted my work in a big way. You really lay out what I've discovered -- that the more I am true to myself, the better my work and work relationships go. So opposite of what I believed/how I acted when I was younger!"" -- Sutton Long, graphic, book + magazine designer
