Naming Ceremonies, guides readers through an exploration of one of life's most significant rituals. From the planning stages to the actual ceremony, this comprehensive guide offers a step-by-step approach to creating a deeply meaningful and memorable event. They can be held for babies, for small children, or older children in the form of an adolescent ceremony.

Discover the importance of involving loved ones and understanding the symbolic significance behind the choice of a name. Whether you are seeking to honour cultural traditions or simply celebrate the arrival of a new family member or endorsing an existing member, Naming Ceremonies is an essential resource that beautifully captures the spirit of this timeless tradition.

The giving of a name is an important rite in any society, for there is the concept that without a name, there is an incomplete personality. Anyone can use the information provided in this book in designing a ceremony, for use either as an appointed celebrant, or as a family member.

Dorothy Shorne has had a varied career. She built modular houses in Central Australia on remote aboriginal settlement, opened various businesses, and was involved in the development of Sydney Airport when it was operated by the Federal Airports Corporation. She was a marriage celebrant for 24 years, and has married couples in different locations, ranging from private gardens, to beaches, to caves, or rural locations. Many of her clients remain friends to this day. She usually writes with Iris, a black and white cat at her elbow, demanding her share of attention. Writing tends to be fuelled with regular coffee boosts, and occasional squares of very dark chocolate.
