Marine environment is a habitant for several species and significantly plays an essential role in the food cycle and climate regulation. Several species including fish and invertebrates that are used as food for humans. Marine larvae species also contain metabolites and are useful for protection and cure of several diseases. This book provides information on aquaculture production, larval feeding, early stage of marine invertebrate’s bioassay and zebrafish model for drug toxicity. This book will interest scientists in the field of marine biotechnology, life sciences, materials scientists, aquaculture companies, and natural product researchers.

He worked as a Distinguished Professor at the Department of Marine Bio Convergence Science and Technology and as Director of the Marine Bioprocess Research Center (MBPRC) at Pukyong National University, Busan, South Korea. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Pukyong National University and conducted postdoctoral studies at the Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA. Later, he became a visiting scientist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland and the University of British Colombia in Canada. Dr. Kim was president of the ‘Korean Society of Chitin and Chitosan’ from 1986-1990 and the ‘Korean Society of Marine Biotechnology’ from 2006-2007. To the credit for his research, he won the best paper award from the American Oil Chemists’ Society in 2002. Dr. Kim was also the chairman of the 7th Asia-pacific Chitin and Chitosan Symposium in South Korea in 2006. He was the chief editor of the ‘Korean Society of Fisheries and Aquatic Science’ during 2008-2009. In addition, he is a board member of the International Society of Marine Biotechnology Associations (IMBA) and the International Society of Nutraceuticals and Functional Food (ISNFF). His primary research interests are investigating and developing bioactive substances from marine resources. His immense experience in marine bio-processing and mass-production technologies for the marine bio-industry is the key asset in holding majorly funded Marine Bio projects in Korea. Furthermore, he expanded his research fields up to the development of bioactive materials from marine organisms for their applications in oriental medicine, cosmeceuticals, and nutraceuticals. He has authored around 720 research papers, 70 books, and 120 patents.
