A moving story about mateship, bravery, and the Australian spirit.
When a soldier on a World War I battlefield sends a pine cone home to his mother in Australia, he could not know that his simple gift would become a symbol of history and remembrance.

Suzie Brown and Margaret Warner’s sensitive text is evocatively illustrated by Sebastian Ciaffaglione and tells a story that is about both personal experience and a nation-defining event.

In this breathtaking book, the history of the Battle of Lone Pine is detailed along with the lives of the real-life people who inspired the story, creating a valuable resource for Anzac Day conversations.

A CBCA Notable Book, Lone Pine celebrates the small actions we can take in times of crisis and the big impacts they can have.

Perfect for:

- Kids interested in history.

- Parents, caregivers and educators.

- Teaching young readers about the ANZACs and Anzac Day.

Telling stories has always been part of Susie Brown’s life. Her earliest scribbles were taped to her parents’ wardrobe door, and she was always making up elaborate adventures to entertain her family and friends. When asked what she wanted to be when she grew up, Susie would answer either a teacher or a writer — she is lucky enough to now be both. Margaret Warner is an Australian children’s author and former teacher of both children and adults. She writes fiction and non fiction and is an avid reader of new and old children’s and YA books. Margaret was a wildlife carer of birds, possums kangaroos and wombats and has a strong interest in the environment so you’re likely to find animals and the environment somewhere in Margaret’s books and poems. Sebastian Ciaffaglione is a freelance artist based out of Melbourne, Australia. He studied illustration at NMIT and is continually striving to reach his artistic goals.
