Dr Amit Patel is a disability rights campaigner, fundraiser, motivational speaker and independent diversity and accessibility consultant. Amit studied medicine at Cambridge University and qualified as a trauma doctor, specializing in emergency medicine and major incidents. During med school Amit was diagnosed with keratoconus, which is usually easily treated with a corneal transplant. However, Amit was one of the rare individuals for whom the transplants rejected and he was registered severely sight impaired (blind) just one year after getting married in 2013. Kika is a white Labrador who has been matched to Amit since September 2015.
An entirely original, inspiring and compelling book, which is genuinely hard to put it down. Amit's story is nothing less than extraordinary, and rekindles one's faith in human nature . . . I think for millions of people, this will come to be an essential piece of reading. -- Andrew Marr An incredible story of courage, perseverance and, ultimately love. * Sun * An uplifting read that highlights not only how we can all be better allies to disabled people but the importance of family and community support while navigating hardships. * Cosmopolitan * The most moving book of the year * Lady *
