Dr. Lihe Zhang was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. Currently he is a full professor at School of pharmacy, Peking University. He is mainly engaged in nucleic acid chemistry, chemical biology research of intracellular messenger molecules and research of anti-tumor and antiviral drugs. He has published more than 270 papers and won 5 Chinese patents. He has made outstanding contributions in the research fields of the mechanism of enzymatic nucleic acid cleavage of nucleic acid chains, the properties of artificially modified oligonucleotides and their recognition of nucleic acids, as well as the anti-tumor and antiviral activities of various nucleosides, nucleotides and their conjugates. He also served as the director of the Chemistry Department at the National Natural Science Foundation of China (1999-2006), the convener of the pharmaceutical discipline of the discipline review group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council (1998-2008), and the vice chairman of the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (1998-2006).
