This book is a memoir of his professional journey in the port and shipping industry in India, with international links to global trade and commerce. It tells the story of a start-up entrepreneur with dreams and visions to position Indian Ports and Shipping at the competitive top of the global port and shipping industry. The balancing of spiritual and material elements in the techno-commercial shipping industry building has been blended into the writing.

About the Author

Probir Mitra was born into the illustrious family of Sir Ramesh Chandra Mitra, the first Indian Chief Justice of British India, on January 3, 1939. After graduating from St. Xavier's College, he had 5 years of post-graduate shipping education and work experience in London, UK, and Bremen, West Germany. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Ship=Brokers in London. After serving Ratnakar Shipping Company of K K Birla Group and then Sinclair Freight and Chartering for 6 years, he founded Himalaya Shipping Company in 1971. He left Himalaya Shipping in 1981 to start Capstan Shipping and Estate Company and pursued many innovative projects for port and shipping. He was also a state- and national-level table tennis player, winning the Bengal State Championship in 1959. Over the course of six decades, he played a major role in the development and growth of table tennis, particularly in sports at the state and national levels in India. He served as a trustee on the Kolkata Port Trust Board between 2004 and 2009.
