With emerging biological threats from pathogenic microorganisms and increasing environmental pollutants, it is essential to ensure the safety needs of individuals and the ecosystem are met. Modern materials science and engineering has evolved over the years to better develop devices to test abnormalities. Affordability, accessibility, and reliability of any analytical system is the prime necessity for a modern diagnostic application.

Health and Environmental Applications of Biosensing Technologies: Clinical and Allied Health Science Perspective presents a detailed overview on biosensor design systems and optimal fabrication technologies to create a greater impact on various industries and help organizations break existing performance tradeoffs to deploy biosensor technologies across inter/transdisciplinary businesses. The book presents novel and emerging trends in biosensor design and healthcare applications focused on API detection, communicable/non-communicable disease diagnosis, food quality monitoring, agro-environmental analysis, bio-defense, and industrial pollutant sensing. In addition, wearable biosensors, commercial products, and safety regulations for biosensing technologies are summarized.

Dr. Murugan received his B. Pharmacy degree from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, INDIA. He did his M.S., and Ph.D., research work in the field of Bionanotechnology and obtained degree in Biomedical Engineering (Bionanotechnology) from Gachon University, South Korea. In S. Korea, Murugan worked on biofunctionalized metal, metalloid and carbon-polymer nanomaterials for anti-microbial and electrochemical biosensor application. Dr. Murugan was a GRSTB Postdoctoral Fellow at Université de Montréal, QC, where he worked on bio-functionalized metalloid-polymer and graphene oxide nanostructures for non-enzymatic and enzymatic bioassay of cancer marker. Dr. James is the Chief Scientist & Head of EEC Division and holding Adjunct Professorship in Chemical Science in AcSIR, Ghaziabad. His research is focused on the fundamental aspects of chemically modified electrodes, basic & developmental aspects of chemical sensors, synthesis of new (nano)materials for electrocatalysis, sensor construction and energy related applications. As a project coordinator/team leader he has contributed several sponsored projects from Government of India as well as private R&D organizations. Dr. James is the author of numerous research paper (>70) in peer-reviewed journals; theme coordinator for skill development course on “Electroanalytical Techniques for (Bio)Sensing and (Electro)catalytic Applications” funded by Science &Technology Division of CSIR-CECRI; and chairman of CSIR-CECRI safety committee. Dr. Mohana completed her B. Pharmacy from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University. She was a Clinical Research Coordinator working on Phase III Clinical Trial program (2007-2008) at the department of Pulmonology in Sri Ramakrishna Multi-speciality Hospital Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. She accomplished M.S., and Ph.D., at the College of BioNanotechnology, Gachon University, South Korea, with a Major in Biomedical Engineering. Her postgraduate and Ph.D., studies involve development of Microfluidic platform for polymer microfiber synthesis, tissue engineering, 3D co-culture of Cells, CMOS System for Immunoassay and ECIS for Cell-Drug Assays.
