Atsushi Iida (Ph.D. Indiana University of Pennsylvania) is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Aoyama Gakuin University, where he teaches courses in TESOL and applied linguistics. His research explores second language writing, poetry writing, voice and identity, and literature in second language education. He has published widely in international journals and is the co-editor (with Bee Chamcharatsri) of International Perspectives on Creative Writing in Second Language Education: Supporting Language Learners’ Proficiency, Identity and Creative Expression (Routledge, 2022).
“Atsushi Iida has for years been the primary, pioneering researcher of haiku poetry reading and writing in English as an additional language. A first-rate researcher, Iida here defines English-language haiku, expands on existing understandings, and unpacks the implications for language learning. This book is a must-have for anyone who wishes to further build on the scholarship of creative writing studies and the scientific study of literature.” -Justin Nicholes, Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition, University of Wisconsin-Stout, USA
