"This research note contains original research contributed by mathematicians who attended a workshop on ""Chaotic Dynamics and Bifurcations"" held at the Department of Mathematics, Groningen University in March 1989. The general subject of the book is ""nonlinear dynamical systems"" though within this field there is some variation of context. Some of the subjects deal with Hamiltonian or reversible dynamics, while others belong to the theory of systems without such special properties. In many of the papers, bifurcational aspects are treated; usually this concerns unfoldings of degenerate equilibrium points of systems with continuous time dependence. In the Hamiltonian setting these equilibria are related to certain specific resonances. The branching off of certain periodic, quasi-periodic or chaotic solutions is studied in analytic, and often more geometric, detail. Existence problems are discussed, and a paper concerning Aristotelian physics is also included. It is aimed at graduate students and research workers in nonlinear ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems and related fields. It will also be of interest to theoretical physicists."
