Ma is the Japanese word for a pause, emptiness, silence, being in between events and places. You most likely experience Ma every day, in your conversations, relationships, commutes, work, and life. Drawing from this beautiful Japanese philosophy, Fifteen Pauses explains how holding moments of silence, emptiness, stillness is transformative - life-changing. Fifteen

Pauses is for a busy, noisy world that values action and results, yet secretly wishes to stop and be silent.

Written in an engaging and conversational style, this book blends storytelling with psychology research, charming examples from Japanese art, theatre, society, architecture to reveal our human reactions to the pause - like why we resist it, and why we need it. This book is essential reading for psychologists, coaches, counselors, teachers. It will also be of interest to anyone wanting to unlock the deeper secrets of Japanese Ma, and use its wisdom to live a more fulfilling life.
