Reviews for Experiencing Motivational Interviewing from the Inside Out: A Self-Practice/Self-Reflection Workbook for Practitioners

""For decades, MI practitioners have looked outside of ourselves at the marvels of how to improve the helping relationship and get the best out of people. This wonderful book focuses on a surprising missing piece in the MI literature: the person who is trying to help someone else. Giving practitioners the opportunity to look into the mirror, the approach in this book is not just a good idea, but will come to be seen as a prerequisite for good practice. Take the time to read and use this book--you won't regret it.""--Stephen Rollnick, PhD, Honorary Distinguished Professor, School of Medicine, Cardiff University, Wales, United Kingdom; cofounder of MI ""Through innovative SP/SR methods, this transformative guide empowers readers to internalize MI skills and concepts in a profoundly personal way. The book offers a deeply immersive experience. It is an indispensable tool for both novice and seasoned practitioners in health care, coaching, and beyond.""—Jacinta M. Jiménez, PsyD, psychologist, board-certified executive coach, and author of The Burnout Fix ""Many of the technical aspects of MI are straightforward to teach and learn, but our most effective therapists also form deep, empathic bonds with clients. Beyond using smart techniques, supporting change requires true experiential connection in sessions. Rosengren and colleagues have opened up the black box of expert therapists. Through clear explanations and practical exercises, this powerful book provides an impactful roadmap for anyone looking to deepen their MI skills.""--David Atkins, PhD, CEO and cofounder, Lyssn ""This book provides the unique opportunity to learn and understand MI from the client perspective. Learning about MI from this lens allows practitioners to move from seeing MI as a specific set of communication skills to seeing it as a way of being present with a client considering behavior change. I highly recommend this book for practitioners new to MI, as well as those with decades of experience. It reminds us of the importance of slowing down, truly listening, and partnering with our clients in their change journey.""--Jennifer K. Manuel, PhD, Chief of Psychology, San Francisco VA Health Care System; Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of California, San Francisco; member, Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers -
