This book answers the question: Where are all of the positive Black men? THEY ARE HERE! Their voices live within these pages as told across four generations. Positive, hard-working, family focused, children-loving men who have shared the values they were raised with by parents, grandparents, and some great-grand parents in cohesive and supportive communities.

The intention of this book is to aims to counter the pervasive negative stereotypes of Black men often portrayed in the media. These pictures of Black men is one-sided - and not by accident. However, and fortunately, Dr. Murray was able to meet and interview dozens of serious-minded, outstanding Black male citizens from age 22 to 102 who shared their life's experiences and how the family values they were taught shaped their worldviews. Another intention of this book is to remind the reader that they too know such positive, wonderful, loving men-in their family, their childhood neighbors, members of their place of worship, maybe at their place of employment-that are often overlooked or forgotten because they aren't trying to draw attention to themselves. These men are our unsung heroes and we need to recognize and shower them with appreciation and love.

Reviews for Daddy's Home: Voices of Positive African American Fathers

Filled with fascinating true stories illuminating lived experiences of African American fathers, across four or five generations, Dr. June P. Murray has captured (from oral history interviews) narratives portraying strong Black men in ways one may never have imagined. Daddy's Home: Voices of Positive African American Fathers is a treasure trove of historical human journeys personifying strengths, high morals and values of hardworking dedicated family men. By the end of this book, one has a greater appreciation for these impressive real life stories of fathers often struggling to overcome poverty and racial oppression while holding their families together. My own personal and professional life experiences validate the fact that these strong African American men exist in our society, contrary to the often stereotypical negative images frequently depicted in movies, TV and other media formats. -Patricia C. Ramsey, DSW, LCSW; Psychotherapist with A Rational Counseling Center; (Retired) Professor, Department of Social Work, North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina
