Membrane Systems for Hydrogen Production offers an overview of advanced technologies in the field of both catalysts and membrane technologies for hydrogen productions and energy saving. Catalysts play an irreplaceable role in chemical engineering for carrying out reaction at industrial level. Membrane processes are today well-recognized technologies in many fields, such as water and wastewater treatment, gas separation and purification, etc. This book relates these two fields and their role in electrochemical hydrogen production by presenting 5 specific chapters where the catalysts are compared to the membrane technology. The purpose of this book is to provide an overview on recently developed catalysts which work in combination with membrane operations for energy savings. This combination provides an example of strategies for engineering development and process intensification of interest for both industrial and developing countries.

Angelo Basile, a Chemical Engineer, is a senior Researcher at the ITM-CNR, University of Calabria, where he is responsible for research related to both the ultra-pure hydrogen production and CO2 capture using Pd-based Membrane Reactors. Angelo Basile's h-index is 53, with 387 document results with a total of 8,910 citations in 5,034 documents (www.scopus.com – 24 May 2023). He has more than 170 scientific papers in peer-to-peer journals and 252 papers in international congresses; and is a reviewer for 165 int. journals, an editor/author of more than 50 scientific books and 120 chapters on international books on membrane science and technology; 6 Italian patents, 2 European patents and 5 worldwide patents. He is referee of 104 international scientific journals and Member of the Editorial Board of 22 of them. Basile is also Editor associate of the Int. J. Hydrogen Energy and Editor-in-chief of the Int. J. Membrane Science & Technol. and Editor-in-chief of Membrane Processes (Applications), a section of the Intl J. Membranes. Basile also prepared 42 special issues on membrane science and technology for many international journals (IJHE, Chem Eng. J., Cat. Today, etc.). He participated to and was/is responsible of many national and international projects on membrane reactors and membrane science. Basile served as Director of the ITM-CNR during the period Dec. 2008 – May 2009. In the last years, he was tutor of 30 Thesis for master and Ph.D. students at the Chemical Engineering Department of the University of Calabria (Italy). From 2014, Basile is Full Professor of Chemical Engineering Processes. Dr. Teko W. Napporn, is an electrochemist and a tenure Researcher of French National Center of Scientific Research (CNRS) at Institut de Chimie des Milieux et Matériaux de Poitiers IC2MP (University of Poitiers, France) where he is currently co-leader of SAMCat research team. He graduated in 1997 from University of Poitiers with a PhD in Physical, Theoretical and Analytical Chemistry. After he joined as post-doctoral fellow the Electrocatalysis Group of the Chemistry Institute of Sao Carlos at University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), and later in 1999, the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal (Canada) as research associate. There, he had studied and developed the single chamber SOFC system in collaboration with Hydro-Quebec. Since 2008 he got a tenure position at CNRS for developing novel nanomaterials for electrocatalysis especially for application in energy conversion and storage systems. He participated/managed various projects in the field and co-authored 105 + articles and 11 book chapters. Since 2015, he is involved as Adjunct professor at the Institute of Advanced Science of Yokohama National University (Japan) to design innovative materials for fuel cell and water electrolyzer.
