Da Chen is the author of Colours of the Mountain and China's Son. An accomplished flautist and brush calligrapher, he lives with his wife and two children in New York's Hudson Valley.
Chen was born into the last throes of China's Cultural Revolution. Despised and marginalized by virtue of their former landlord status, Chen's family sought to survive a rigidly oppressive system; their youngest son cherishing an idealistic hope for a more prosperous future. After countless overwhelming setbacks, at the age of 14 Chen realized that education held the key to his emancipation and two years later he booked a train for the first time, bound for college life in Beijing. From extreme poverty to his current position as a New York lawyer, Chen's story is a richly compelling one, beautifully written. (Kirkus UK)
