Brian is a veteran police officer, retired lawyer, speaker, leadership coach, and author who has been involved in the justice system in one way or another since 1994, moving from law student to police officer to licensed lawyer to police leader. In 2004, Brian was the lead investigator in a motor vehicle crash involving the death of a close friend. The impact of that night caused his life to spiral downwards for the better part of a decade. In 2012, after months of depression, thoughts of suicide, isolation from family, and darkness, he was finally diagnosed with, and began therapy for post-traumatic stress tied to the death of his friend.Brian has published two books about his experiences with trauma and leadership. In 2016, he wrote about his journey through his PTS in 'On the Other Side of Broken - One Cop's Battle With the Demons of PTSD.' The feedback and stories Brian heard after his first book started much contemplation about the important role Leadership plays in shaping mental health, leading to him authoring 'Career Suicide is Overrated.' He is a professional speaker and has presented to international first responder agencies, corporations, non-profits, and educational institutes on Leadership, trauma, and first responder culture. Brian is the creator of the CAPITAL L Leadership training program and facilitates ongoing Mastermind groups and training sessions exploring the CAPITAL L Leadership concepts for modern professionals. The CAPITAL L Leadership program received the 2019 Corporate Livewire Award for Excellence in Mental Health Support. He is a graduate of the Queen's University Workplace Mental Health Leadership Certificate program, a certified leadership coach, a mindfulness coach, a critical incident stress supporter, and a member of the International Institute for Mental Health Leadership. Brian has been married to his partner in both life and business, Cathy, a mental health educator, for over twenty years. He has two teenage sons and three dogs, including a big goofy Goldendoodle named Franklin who is his shadow around the house.
