Since 1997, the ELF has inflicted over 100 million dollars in damages on entities they believe to be causing environmental destruction, mostly through brazen arson attacks on timber companies, ski resorts, and car dealerships. Former ELF spokesperson Craig Rosebraugh charts the history and ideology of the ELF and explores its tactics, successes, and limitations. Rosebraugh examines the question of whether or not violence is justifiable, along with the short- and long-term political benefits and drawbacks of using violence. He also offers a primer on the tactics of state repression and strategies the US government uses to destroy activist movements. Whatever your view of direct action or violence, Burning Rage of a Dying Planet is an illuminating read for anyone seeking to understand radical environmental movements and the government's response to them. This revised and updated edition has a foreword by Extinction Rebellion co-founder Tamsin Omond.

Craig Rosebraugh has been a recognised political activist for over two decades, advocating for environmental preservation, human rights, and animal welfare. He has led numerous local and national campaigns; was a North American spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front; has been arrested a dozen times for civil disobedience; was hauled in front of eight federal grand juries as a non-cooperating witness and target; was forced to appear and testify in front of the U.S. Congress; has received beatings, chemical spray, and a broken arm at the hands of police; and survived two FBI and ATF raids on his homes and offices, as well as over a decade of federal government surveillance, harassment, and intimidation. He recently prevailed in an out-of-court settlement against the Department of Justice, gaining access to his 22,000-page FBI file. He is the author of three books and has been featured on 60 Minutes, 20/20, The Today Show, Frontline, and ABC/CBS/NBC evening news, as well as in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Maxim, USA Today, Newsweek, National Geographic, Time, Outside, and Details.
