"""Shane Phelan's memoir is a love story. She seeks. She perceives hints of the Beloved in unlikely places. She finds, loses, finds again. The reader will not only enjoy a good tale, but recognize in it, the mysterious truth of love."" The Rev. Suzanne Guthrie, author, retreat leader, host of The Edge of Enclosure 'This entire book is a testament to the search for love, meaning, purpose, peace. It is not only the story of a faith journey; it is a generous invitation to reflective attentiveness to the Spirit's movement in one's life. As we read, we are gently drawn into discovering for ourselves the grace within every challenge, every mistake, every point of brokenness. Big Queer Nun relates the experience of being approached, pursued, encountered by God when least expected (or when actively fleeing God). Shane experiences this with wonder, humility and gratitude, and graciously shares her wisdom with all of us."" The Rt. Rev. Chilton R Knudsen, 8th Bishop of Maine; co-author, So You Think You Don't Know One?: Addiction and Recovery in Clergy and Congregations 'This is a touching, powerful story of recovery, endurance and transformation. From self-alienation to self-acceptance, from self-destruction to self-awareness, Shane testifies to a soul's potential for re-creative potential."" Don Bisson, FMS, spiritual director, national and international speaker, founder of the Center for Christian-Jungian Dialogue ""Big Queer Nun is the courageous retelling of a tragic and true story-addiction, abuse, lies and more-in multiple layers of sorrow, fear and amazing grace. The story is made readable and lovable by sturdy, blunt prose. A reader will be suspended, breathless, shocked, and simultaneously grounded in a great bundle of Wonder."" Lyn Brakeman, Episcopal priest; author, God is Not a Boy's Name, blogger ""Fearless in pursuit of life - and sometimes oblivious to the consequences - Shane recounts one headlong rush after another in her search for answers. Her desire to contribute and her inability to avoid the hard truths save her over and over again. This is a story of redemption through honesty, through the difficult work of making and owning your mistakes, and of persistence that eventually leads to a life of service and prayer."" Ann Overton, Executive Director, Mastery Foundation"
