Beginner's Mandarin Chinese Dictionary is specifically designed for beginning students of Chinese. It covers the 2,500 basic vocabulary items, including all 

vocabulary prescribed for Levels 1-5 of the standard test of proficiency in Chinese, Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK). 

Entries are arranged alphabetically using the standard Hanyu Pinyin system of Romanization. All Chinese words and phrases in the book are given in Chinese 

characters and Romanized form to enable immediate and accurate pronunciation. An analysis of word-formation is provided to understand the ways that words with two or more syllables are formed. Example sentences are presented with pinyin and English equivalents, to show how each main word is used correctly. A radical and character index allow you to quickly look up any character.
