Basic Skills Review is designed to bring the students who have limited academic and business skills to a level suitable for employment. Written as a three-part guide, the book begins with a review of reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Each area opens with an overview of the subject and is followed by practice exercises. The material presented is purposely selected to improve skills but not to overwhelm or discourage the student. Part II of Review presents information and exercises to review social skills including introductions, phone courtesy, conversations, and speaking to a group. It also includes information on the processes of job searching, developing a personal information sheet, interviewing, and writing a follow-up letter. The last part of Basic Skills Review provides direction in the working world. It begins with information about completing job applications as well as insurance forms, etc. This information is followed by instructions for writing a memo, reporting an accident, and writing a business letter. Additional information on work ethics and character follows. This section includes comments on personal appearance, handling problems, developing personal relationships in the workplace, and becoming a loyal, trustworthy employee. Additional resources for each area are listed in the appendix.
