Art Therapy, Dreams, and Healing: Beyond the Looking Glass synthesizes methods to work with one’s dreams through art therapy and introduces the reader to brief creative methods, Gestalt and Jungian experiential methods, and research on lucid dreaming and dream re-entry.

The author provides a unique, clear and concise synthesis of 19 available dreamwork methods to find the message of your dreams, with examples from her own 35 years of psychotherapy practice. Along with a classification of types and functions of dreams, chapters include information such as how to keep a dream journal, how to remember one’s dreams, how to identify 25 different dream types and how to follow your own dreamwork process.

This book provides a succinct blend of available dreamwork methods for readers to find the existential message of their dreams and grow from them.

Reviews for Art Therapy, Dreams, and Healing: Beyond the Looking Glass

Readers interested in dreaming and dream interpretation need a good book on using art therapy and time-honored techniques for dreamwork, and Johanne Hamel has the qualifications, experience and skills to make that a reality! Robert Waggoner, author of Lucid Dreaming - Gateway to the Inner Self and co-author of Lucid Dreaming Plain and Simple. This book offers a unique, indispensable integration of art therapy, psychotherapy and dreamwork but is not limited to that; it also encompasses writing methods, lucid dreaming, and other aspects of creativity. As a long-time dream journalist, and a psychologist, I am intrigued by this book very much and I am sure that it would attract and inspire many other readers as well. Misa Tsuruta, PhD, psychologist/psychotherapist (Tokyo, Japan) Already published in French, the success, uniqueness and clear depiction of this book on Art Therapy and Dreams makes it a valuable contribution to the field. Johanne Hamel's many years of experience in the field as a mental health professional has given her the insight and the expertise required to write on this topic. Her many years of involvement in the art therapy field, her books and her research, have spread the knowledge of dream work to many parts of the world including Thailand, were she teaches on a regular basis. Lucille Proulx, MA, ATR, RCAT, Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy.
