""A fascinating reinterpretation of the life of Christ in the light of recent research. Through some unexpected images of Christ, including Jester, Dancer, and Iconoclast, each being exemplified in the radical life of Francis of Assisi, we are beckoned to risk new adventures as we dare to become for the sake of an uncertain world, like Francis, another Christ."" --Pat Mossop, minister, Third Order Society of St. Francis, European Province ""This is a vibrant resource, providing rich historical context to help us better understand Jesus's mission in the world and how Francis sought to emulate Jesus in his own life and community. Having equipped us with this fuller picture, Andrew Mayes then challenges us through questioning, reflection, and prayer to deepen our own discipleship. I commend this resource for any Christian intrigued by the way of St. Francis, especially for group study and action."" --John Rebstock, formation guardian, Third Order Society of St. Francis, Province of the Americas ""In a creative blend of history, imagination, and Franciscan spirituality Mayes explores diverse images of Christ. Readers are informed on aspects of contemporary scholarship, challenged through 'alternative' insights, and invited to new practices of prayer and reflection--all inspiring a renewed devotion in the context of today's uncertain world."" --John Drane, theology professor, Fuller Seminary and Oxford ""Mayes' expertise in Holy Land history, archaeology, and Franciscan literature offers readers a reliable companion in their quest for spiritual growth. Thought-provoking inquiries and transformative exercises empower readers to internalize and actualize the wisdom imparted."" --Charles McCarron, minister provincial, Third Order Society of St. Francis, Province of the Americas
