""A Beachcomber's Journal"" is a photographic guide to a large collection of items, most of which have been found around the coastline in Monifieth, Angus, Scotland. It explores the history and origins of these finds as well as highlighting the environmental impact of marine pollution. It also provides a window into the past 100 years or so of what we ate and drank and reflects upon the changing tastes throughout the decades. The finds are from 2018 through to early 2022 and are grouped into types.

It covers the effects on the marine environment in particular of the Covid 19 Pandemic from lockdown in early 2020 when the world became a much quieter place through to 2022 when freedoms were gradually restored and life began to be more ""normal "". Once the most severe travel restrictions were lifted, there was a huge influx of visitors to what had previously been quiet beaches and a noticeable effect on the environment.

This book raises awareness of what history literally lies beneath our feet as well as appreciating the natural beauty to be found on our beaches. We can all play our part in helping to protect the environment, both for marine life and for future generations.

From childhood I have always enjoyed being beside the sea and beaches. I have been fortunate to live in Monifieth, Angus, on the east coast of Scotland, for nearly 30 years with easy access to many beautiful beaches such as Monifieth, Buddon, Carnoustie, Arbroath, Auchmithie, Lunan Bay and Montrose heading up the east coast. To the south there is Tentsmuir, Kinshaldy, St Andrew's and all the beaches round the East Neuk of Fife. They are all different, some have miles of sand, others are rocky and some are covered in pebbles. As a family we have enjoyed many walks and holidays beside the sea in North Yorkshire, Wales and the west coast of Scotland. They all hold a wealth of happy memories.I have been proud to support Monifieth Eco Force in their efforts over the last decade to improve the local marine environment. Taking care of the world we live in is now more important than it ever was. We can all make a difference.
