'Welcome to the Black Hound - a ship full o' the cleverest pirate investigators ya ever set eyes upon.' The captain pauses. 'You OK, lad? Ya gone paler than a full moon.'

When young Flynn becomes too old to stay at the Baskervile orphanage, he applies for a job as cabin boy on the Black Hound. But once aboard, the dreadful reality sinks in - he's on a pirate ship! However, with nowhere else in the world to go, he has no option but to give it a try.

'With an epic journey, dramatic setting and a host of terrifying monsters, there's a thrill on every page.' - Booktrust

'Extremely funny and utterly bonkers.' - The Times

'Entertaining, action packed adventure set in a richly imagined fantasy world.' - Julia Eccleshare in Lovereading

'Apiratical tale with a difference ... an entertaining swashbuckling adventure, with some memorable characters, plenty of playful language, and at almost every turn of the page, a terrific, finely detailed, etching-like illustration by Mark Elvins to add to the dramatic impact.'- Red Reading Hub

Reviews for Flyntlock Bones: The Sceptre of the Pharaohs

The Times: Summer reads: Best Children's Books of 2020;'The first book in a trilogy of pirate-themed detective stories, this tale has a timeless, classic feel with a twist of adventure, magically transporting readers from the deck of the Black Hound to Ancient Egypt with the turn of a page. The illustrations are beautiful, with some full page illustrations that really have the wow factor. The story itself is on the shorter side for children in this age group, but features a surprising amount of challenging vocabulary.' Booktrust;'A fast-paced adventure with lots of fun... With extensive illustrations on every page, there is an excellent balance between text and image. The level of detail draws the reader's eye on each page, looking for clues to the mystery. A great adventure.' Inis Magazine;Highly enjoyable with a fantastic cast of characters, the story is brilliantly enhanced by illustrations reminiscent of the master himself, Chris Riddell.' The Book Activist;'The illustrations are beguiling and detailed and are reminiscent of Chris Riddell and Chris Mould. The story of Flynn is excellent and I cannot wait to join the crew on their next investigation!' My Shelves Are Full
