Amory Blaine, a young Midwesterner, is convinced that he has an exceptionally promising future. The reader follows Amory as he falls in love with Isabelle Borg, a wealthy young debutante; a cruel and narcissistic flapper named Rosalind Connage; and Eleanor, a reckless eighteen-year-old atheist.

An autobiographical novel and a portrait of the dawning Jazz Age, This Side of Paradise launched F. Scott Fitzgerald's career and turned him into an overnight literary sensation.

F. Scott Fitzgerald (18961940) was a celebrated author of novels and short stories whose work is synonymous with the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties of the early twentiethth century. He is regarded as one of the greatest twentieth-century writers. Fitzgerald was of the self-styled 'Lost Generation,' Americans born in the 1890s who came of age during World War I. He finished four novels, left a fifth unfinished, and wrote dozens of short stories that treat themes of youth, despair, and age.
